HUNDREDS of passengers had to be led off a Tube train at North Greenwich station after a power cut affected the Jubilee Line.

Around 700 people were on the train which stopped in the southbound tunnel because of a fault at the line's control centre in Neasden, north west London, at 6.09pm yesterday (April 3).

Firefighters from Greenwich and East Greenwich fire stations arrived at the scene at around 8pm and helped with the evacuation.

They provided lighting in the tunnel and made sure everyone was safely off the train.

The evacuation was completed by 9.10pm.

A Transport for London spokesman says around 5,000 people were stuck on nine services across the Jubilee Line.

No customers needed medical attention.

The Finchley Road to Stanmore service resumed at 8.40pm.

I was stuck on the Jubilee line yesterday evening! It was very frustrating being stuck there for over 2 hours. Just set off from Wesminster and then stopped and was told
"we would be held here for a few minutes due to a defected train" 10 or so minutes later we then got a message saying there was no signal and the driver could not communicate with anyone to see why we was being held. About an hour later the driver was going through each carridge explaining that he had no communication whatsoever and it was a matter of a waiting game until someone came to us!! Around 2 and a half hours later they then decided to make us walk back to Westminster and we then was given a bottle of water for the rest of our journey home.

Not one of my best journeys home in fact one of the worse!!

You had better luck than us Louise. We must have been the train behind yours, stuck between Green Park and Westminster. Stuck there for 2 hours, got out after 3 hours. The driver was very nice, but had no clue what was going on, just kept saying he couldnt get hold of anyone and he hoped that help would be along shortly.

Not the most reassuring journey - what if it had been a real emergency?! It took 2 hours for someone to get get to us and it took an hour to get everyone off the train!

Oh, come on folks, get a grip! Nobody was hurt and electric lighting was provided to show the way.

Incidents like this are bound to happen occasionally on underground as well as overground lines.

When you think of the hundreds of thousands of commuters who use public transport, the law of averages dictates that things will go slightly awry sporadically.

Perhaps if the 4x4 users left their tanks at home and starting using public transport and in doing so pumped some money into the system, improvements could be made to the upkeep of the trains and the lines.

I daresay the moaners were more worried about getting home for their favourite soap opera than anything else.

I wager they would not have minded if they were going into work instead of going home.

Hooray, The Lord is back.

My son was on this and he said it was the best place to be, but a least they got a bottle of free water!

I was stuck in the tunnel between Canary Wharf and North Greenwich but appear to have missed both the free water and the firemen ... :o(

This is terrible people stuck on trains for hours. I think they should increase the cross river bus services as the 108 bus route Lewisham to Stratford via Blackwall Tunnel cannot cope. So TFL more bus routes via Blackwall Tunnel and over Tower Bridge. The 395 should also be re-introduced via Rotherhithe Tunnel. Buses may get delayed in heavy traffic but seem far more relaible then the tube!!

Erastus Theobald Piggott I can quite agree with your regards to your text above I'd like to add that you’re correct in saying that no one was hurt but what about when it happens next time and someone is? This isn't the first time it has happened and it was not exactly an efficient evening! You can't help but think what if and it'll be until something drastic happens that they'll do something about it to prevent this from happening as frequently as it does. It's not just us commuters that were involved in this disastrous evening it was also friends and family for example parents must have had children to pick up, what could they do about this? We had no communication devices to contact anyone and we all had no idea when we would be getting home as all we were told was "it's simply waiting until someone came to us" and we had no idea when that would be! And for those who had important plans of the evening didn't have much of a choice but to sit and wait.

So you see although most people here are moaning about how long we were stuck on the tube you need to look beyond this and think of the other things affected by this long journey from hell.
