A DELIVERY van was left hanging over the A2 duel carriageway in Bexley this afternoon following a traffic accident.
Firefighters and police were called to Woodside Lane, Bexley, near the Danson interchange, just after 3.30pm and found a brown box van, belonging to courier company UPS, which had crashed through the railings on an overpass and was hanging over the London-bound carriageway.
A Toyota Avensis car was caught on the back of the van, preventing it from toppling over on to the road below.
The damaged van was also leaking petrol.
Police had to close two lanes of the London-bound carriageway while up to 20 firefighters worked to stabilise the vehicle and remove it to a safe position.
The A2 was eventually reopened just before 6pm.
No-one was trapped in either vehicle and no-one was injured.

Sarah,so pleased your husband is home safe. The accident happened just in front of me as I drove along the A2 ready to turn off at Blackfen. I could see your husband on the phone, did he swerve to miss something in the road as it's such a quiet little road where he was?

At home wrote:Your correct in making assumptions but the accident happenend right in fornt of her as she was driving so in that time the van driver would not have been able to crash, get out and then get on his phone to make a call which means he would have been driving while on the phone. Does that make sense?

I am just glad everyone was ok,I must admit, the story went flat on me when i read Karen from kents commnets,if true and on the phone, and its was not at least hands free, i hope karen gave evidence to the police and they check his phone records and deal with him accordingly.Well done the emergency services!

Oh Dear....Ive been at WORK all day (not watching daytime tv)therefore have only just seen the mayhem my comment last night has caused. I can assure all of you I DID NOT see the driver crash whilst using his phone. As the crash happened the traffic came to a stand still and as I moved over to the middle lane to avoid the debris in the road I saw the driver out of his van and on his phone. May I apologise to Sarah the van drivers wife if she thought that I was implying he was using the phone whilst driving, that was not my intention at all. Unfortunately as always on this site there are so many people queuing up to point the finger of blame!! Oh and June Dartford...I have no idea what colour under pants he was wearing when he left home yesterday morning but im pretty sure they would have been brown when he returned home!!!
