A DELIVERY van was left hanging over the A2 duel carriageway in Bexley this afternoon following a traffic accident.

Firefighters and police were called to Woodside Lane, Bexley, near the Danson interchange, just after 3.30pm and found a brown box van, belonging to courier company UPS, which had crashed through the railings on an overpass and was hanging over the London-bound carriageway.

A Toyota Avensis car was caught on the back of the van, preventing it from toppling over on to the road below.

The damaged van was also leaking petrol.

Police had to close two lanes of the London-bound carriageway while up to 20 firefighters worked to stabilise the vehicle and remove it to a safe position.

The A2 was eventually reopened just before 6pm.

No-one was trapped in either vehicle and no-one was injured.

My husband was driving the van, he is home safe and unharmed, it wasn't petrol leaking, it was water from the radiator.

Sarah,so pleased your husband is home safe. The accident happened just in front of me as I drove along the A2 ready to turn off at Blackfen. I could see your husband on the phone, did he swerve to miss something in the road as it's such a quiet little road where he was?

HE WAS ON THE PHONE!!!! What an idiot. He could have caused death from his stupid driving. Hope they throw the book at him and make him pay the cost of repairing the damage he caused and the time of the emergency services!!!

Maybe Karen could tear herself away from Trisha to clear up the mess she's making of this man's life.

Your correct in making assumptions but the accident happenend right in fornt of her as she was driving so in that time the van driver would not have been able to crash, get out and then get on his phone to make a call which means he would have been driving while on the phone. Does that make sense?

I think 'Karen' is attempting a wind up.

The A2 at that stretch is about 7foot below the road that runs along side it. As the driver would have been on the far side of the vehicle I would say it would be impossible for Karen to have seen the driver at all, let alone to know if he were using a mobile phone or not.

Sarah - so glad your husband is ok.

It sounds to me as though he were rammed by the vehicle behind him.

He's had a lucky escape!

Oh Dear....Ive been at WORK all day (not watching daytime tv)therefore have only just seen the mayhem my comment last night has caused. I can assure all of you I DID NOT see the driver crash whilst using his phone. As the crash happened the traffic came to a stand still and as I moved over to the middle lane to avoid the debris in the road I saw the driver out of his van and on his phone. May I apologise to Sarah the van drivers wife if she thought that I was implying he was using the phone whilst driving, that was not my intention at all. Unfortunately as always on this site there are so many people queuing up to point the finger of blame!! Oh and June Dartford...I have no idea what colour under pants he was wearing when he left home yesterday morning but im pretty sure they would have been brown when he returned home!!!

Oh my how funny you are Erastus....

Karen, sorry if I jumped to conclusions - I was trying to defuse a situation before it became yet another hate campaign as tends to happen alot around here!

I've just noticed my mistake - Sorry Erastus, I appologise for blaming the lame joke made by L&L onto yourself - I have to say I thought it was a little substandard for you, I just hadn't realised that L&L had taken such good notes on your style.

I will have to read better before I post.

I live on the road in question and the first thing I said was the driver was probably on a mobile phone. It is common knowledge that van drivers ignore the law and are always seen driving having a mobile phone glued to their ear. Such an action puts lives at risk and should be punished accordingley.

Police should follow up and check phone usage
