This is not the first time someone drives into a parked car on Well Hall Road. This particular accident could have been caused by high speed, drink or drugs, but the parking arrangements may also have contributed to this. The sensible thing would be to make Well Hall Road a "red route", considering how much it is used by emergency vehicles and busses.

It certainly sounded like a high speed event of two cars racing prior to one hitting the parked car into a tree. There was also a little crowd of them much more then would fit in one car. After the first two patients were carted off who were without doubt injured, another two women who had been fine for some time and laughing and joking and tottering around in high heels decided eventually that they needed treatment too! Had this accident happened later some innocent people or person could have been killed I hope this will be investigated thoroughly. The police also took around 20 minutes before they arrived at the scene the ambulance arrived long before and the fire engine.

Nothing wrong with Well Hall Road. As long as you drive to the rules of the road. I drive up and down this road 3 times a week for over 10 years and have never hit anything.

OK so red route it and pray tell us all where will all the residents cars go ?

Sounds like this accident was a clear cut case and that it was going to happen regardless of parked cars.

I drive Well Hall Road almost daily and I see often situations where a police car or an ambulance is struggling to cut through the traffic because there are not enough spots where they can overtake others. There is also totally unnecessary congestion by the co-op because drivers who are turning into residential roads/rat-runs block the road and others don't have space to drive past them. And I've seen 3 or 4 parked cars that somebody has ran into just in the last few months. All of these problems could be tackled quite easily.

Parking in general should not be a problem. Most of the side roads have ample space for residents to park and there is plenty of space around the station for commuters and on Orangery Lane for shoppers.

Sorry but what utter rubbish.
Most of the side roads have car parked there already because guess what .......people already live down the side roads.
and they are hardly rat runs because of all the speed bumps.

You really don't have a clue. The roads around the station ( Glenhouse to Strong bow are all permit parking apart from Glenlea Rd. Which is full by 8:10am.

How about looking at the person behind the wheel and not laying blame on the road.
For example the Co-op there is always a car parked on double yellow lines on the corner of Craigton Rd. It's not the roads fault it's the moron that parked it there. If people were more considerate and could drive properly there would not be a problem.

If anyone drives into a parked car they are stupid. The standard of driving has got very bad, people don't look ahead and just watch the car in front.

I totally agree with you on driving standards. That's the main cause of accidents and one of the main reasons for his insurance premiums.

As far as parking is concerned, one of the main problems is Glenlea Road, but there are also several roads below the A2 that are not controlled. If the whole area between Well Hall Road and Westmount Road was a CPZ commuters would not take up the parking spaces and a the other problems (rat running, congested main roads, parking for residents...) would not be so bad.

And your point on people parking on double yellow lines confirms my point on red routes. Most people still respect red route markings while double yellow is interpreted as "it's OK to park if you just nip quickly to the shops".

Regarding rat running, you might be interested to know that residents on Greenvale Road have complained to the council about persistent and aggressive rat running that continues despite the 20 mph zone.

As far as I know, the council has turned a blind eye to all of these issues and continues to prioritise commuters' needs over the local issues. We mustn't accept this and take the poorly designed traffic and parking arrangements for granted.
