Boris pledges to bring Freedom Pass eligibility down to 60

First published in Traffic & Travel by

BORIS Johnson has pledged to lower the age of eligibility for free 24-hour public transport back to 60 if he is re-elected.

The Mayor of London said he would reverse the previous administration’s decision to gradually increase the age of eligibility for the Freedom Pass to 65 by 2015.

Mr Johnson said: "Hard-working people who have done the right thing and paid their taxes in expectation of free travel on retirement are right to be annoyed at those who seek to take that away.

"Today I renew my pledge to elderly Londoners that they will get free travel from the age of 60. I am confident that ongoing savings will enable me to deliver this for the next mayoral term."

Boris, people of 60 do not consider themselves to be "elderly". A piece of election fluff gone badly wrong.

Another harebrained scheme from Boris that the working population of London will have to fund, fares for us have already increased dramatically this year and he wants to hand out free travel to yet more people. Sounds fair to me! i It has the words election gimmick written all over it!!

Great idea BoJo, you get my vote son. Bringing free travel for 60 year olds means I can get out of the rut I'm stuck in. The world will be my oyster, well London at least for a start.

Well said Mad One, is the same every day loadsa obese kids with their boxes of chips covered in tomato sauce only travelling max 3 stops on the busses, whilst a 60 year old person gets shoved to the side..... make them pay £1 or make the travel cards only be able to be used for a minimum of 2 miles, they really do need exercise, and the lack of exercise is putting them in an early grave,
