A timelapse video of demolition work at London Bridge reveals the sheer scale of work taking place underneath its busy platforms.

The footage, published by Network Rail, was done in September to make room for a new concourse.

The work is part of a complete rebuild of the south-east London station as part of the £6.5bn Thameslink Programme, which is supposed to "increase capacity and reliability at one of Europe's busiest rail routes."

This video captures one of the many phases of the project and shows 19th century brick arches under platforms 10 and 11 being destroyed.

The first part of the new facilities will open in 2016 and the entire concourse is expected to be complete in 2018.
