The QE2 Bridge was closed for more than an hour this morning (September 30) after a man fell ill on the crossing and stopped his car.

The incident was reported at 8am and all the lanes were closed shortly after until 9.30am so paramedics could treat him while Essex Police and the Gravesend RNLI also rushed to the scene.

Severe delays continued this morning on the bridge with queues now back midway between junction 29 and 30.

A Gravesend RNLI spokesman said: "The lifeboat was launched this morning at 8.36am to a person who had stopped their vehicle on the QE2 Bridge and their intentions were unknown.

"When on scene it was confirmed that the person had become ill and stopped their vehicle on the bridge as they were not able to continue.

"The police were dealing with them and the lifeboat was not required so was stood down to return to station."
