A CAR has smashed through a store window - causing £10,000 damage.

Country Interiors co-director David Nunn was in the back office of the shop in Station Square, Petts Wood, when it happened.

A passer-by told him the driver, who is in her 60s, was parking in one of the bays when she accidentally pressed the accelerator and not the brake.

Mr Nunn said: "It was about 11 o'clockish and there was a great crash and an almighty bang and I thought Jesus, what's that?'"

"The driver was shaken up and the newsagent next door made her a cup of tea."

An ambulance crew treated her at the scene and she then went home.

The shop's landlord is covered by insurance for the crash which wrecked the window, damaged the door frame and caused minor damage to the kitchen display at the front of the shop.
