IN A scene reminiscent of the X Files, a couple have been left scratching their heads after a UFO sighting in their garden.

Helen Hanreck, 49, was looking for her cats in the garden when she noticed a bright light in the sky.

Miss Hanreck, of Longwalk, Istead Rise, claims she saw more than six red lights moving silently across the night sky.

She claims the lights were moving slowly in an inverted V shape with a long tail.

The insurance manager called to her partner, Nick Claydon, to have a look at the spectacle on September 8 at 9.45pm.

Miss Hanreck says she hoped he would give her a rational explanation to the unexplained lights.

She said: "I thought it was flying too close to other aircraft and I did think It's a terrorist attack heading for London'.

"But then I realised it was going the other way and heading south east. I called to Nick as I thought he would know what the lights were as he has a pilot's licence.

"But when he came into the garden we were both lost for words. We watched the lights for 10 to 15 minutes and it was like watching Chinese lanterns being dragged silently through the sky."

She added: "I am not a believer in spaceships and aliens but I called the police to report it.

"They told me a taxi driver had already phoned in about it, so I was relieved it was not just us."

Mr Claydon, who also saw the UFOs, insists he and his partner are not "nutters".

The 49-year-old said: "We are not flying saucer nutters. We are just normal people, although we did go to Roswell in America to see where a spaceship was supposed to crash.

"I have always wanted to see something like this as other people go on about it.

"When we saw it I raced for my camera but I had it on the wrong setting so nothing came out."

Miss Hanreck says there may be a perfectly logical explanation although she can't think of one.

She added: "I would be interested to hear whether anyone else saw anything.

"We are so mystified by the whole thing. It's definitely a story we will be able to tell at dinner parties."

North Kent police say they had one report of someone seeing flashing lights at 10.01pm on September 8.

Right, they aren't UFO enthusiats at all, they just happened to go to the U.S. to see the Roswell crash site! Give me a break what do they take us for? Oh no, they have no interest in trying to see flying saucers at all. These idiots make me so fricken angry. They are just trying to keep the UFO interests going and that is all.

What an arrogant person Cheryl is-how dare she insult those people.I expect she knows little or nothing about the UFO subject.Well, there is a lot more to it than most people would assume.I have seen several that are truly inexplicable.I am an astronomer, and i regard myself an experienced observer

On August the 8th me and a buddy of mine were walking home from a friends house in Healdsburg California around 11 or 12 at night and my friend starts shaking my shoulder and points up. I look up and I see a trianle formation of dim red lights with a very strange light trailing it, more like an orb. The town was dead silent and so was it. I got goose bumps watching this damn thing. I have never seen anything like this before. Im in the Airforce and I know what F-117 looks like at night, I know what a B-2 bomber looks like. This was out of this world. Now I cant really say for sure what this was, but I know what I saw!

My wife and I have just seen the same formation of lights, exactly as described in the newspaper story. We live in Beckenham, and the lights were travelling South-East. The sighting was at around 5:30 Nov 4th. These were definitely not fireworks, they were moving lights in formation. I've never seen anything like it bfore.

I meant April 14th. I reported it to Newshopper on Monday during the day and have their emails as a response so I can prove I am not jumping on the bandwagon. Not sure what the lights were, very exciting stuff!

my husband, daughter and i saw several(about 15-20) bright glowing lights in a uniformed line heading towards london at about 8.30pm. It was very spooky we tried to take a photo but it was too dark needed a tripod. Some children up the road were really freaked out.

I'am a serving police officer, In April 2007 my wife and I were sat in the back garden. At about 2230 we were suprised to see 8 red glowing lights in the sky. They did not change colour. They were spread evenly apart, and moved slowly. There was no engine or roter noise that you could associate with planes or helicopters, and they were not fireworks or flares. We watched the lights move across the sky when we saw the lead object move off upwards and disapear, then each of the other objects followed suit till they had all gone. We then went indoors totally suprised. About 10 minutes later I went back outside, and to my amazment the lights had reappeared in the same spot. Again no engine or roter noise. I went to my camera and took some snaps but they didnt come out very well. The objects then did what they had done the first time we saw them, this time they did not return.

I've just seen four red lights flying low towards the south-west while I was outside smoking. I'm a skeptic when it comes to this stuff, but I can't think of any craft that flies without making any noise! There were at least half a dozen other planes in the sky, presmably coming and going from Heathrow - but these were entirely different.
