This is awful, I live just around the corner from here and have to say the lighting in that alleyway is terrible. I certainly won't be using it as a cut through anymore.

This is indeed awful and shocking. I am not sure about the phrase used by the newsshopper:

Did you see the incident? Call the newsroom on 01689 885725.

I am sure that if anyone did indeed see the incident the first call they would be making would start with a 9. and end with a 9.

I think they mean anyone strange hanging around looking suspicious? Not actually committing the crime fool

why oh why do ladys/girls use alleyways,ill always tell my partner to keep to the main roads with good lights,we hope this lady/girl will be ok and the police catch who did it

It's easy to say don't use it but the footbridge over the railway line is the only way across unless you walk over the bridge in the middle of the road risking your life as you cannot see cars coming over the hump in the road till you get to the top. Judging by the photos being taken on the bridge by forensic officers when I passed earlier I would suspect that this poor lady may have been dragged from the bridge into the alleyway. On the occassions I have been forced to come home after dark alone, I have literally ran over this bridge as it is very scary, the lights are always broken. This is in no way the poor lady's fault, she was probably just trying to get home at a time which was not even that late. I hope they catch him quick so we can feel a little safer again. I will definately walk in the road at night now though and take my chances with the cars.

In response to the previous comment, I have lived here 33 years and will not alter my travel "walking in the road " over the bridge because of this. This is just weak. You may as well just stay at home all the time......

really? you come on here and just think you can call me a fool? that says more about you than me.

The comment was "anyone who saw the incident" - now to me, that says, anyone who saw the INCIDENT. It does not say "anyone who was in the vicinity and may have been looking suspicious before or after the incident".

Anyway, its irrelevant, this is a terrible thing to happen, and sadly seems to be becoming even more commonplace.
Hopefully she will be ok, that's the important thing.
