A TEXT message sent by a 24-year-old woman just hours before she died has inspired her friends and family to remain positive as they mourn for her.

Swanley resident Lucy Clarke died from pulmonary hypertension on April 7 after a two-year battle with the rare lung condition.

As she was being rushed into intensive care just hours before she died, the devout Christian sent a message to her friend Shirley Goodburn.

It said: "It's so tough at the moment, I am not sleeping much and getting very breathless. It's difficult trying to be strong all the time.

"I had a rough ride this morning and got quite frightened. I then went to my place' with Jesus and he was standing there with the kindest eyes. He didn't say anything, he just looked intently at me.

"And I was washed over with reassurance and love. Trust in Him was his message."

The text was shown to Lucy's friends and family after she died and its message of courage and faith during difficult times has inspired them.

Her 53-year-old father Calvin, of Philip Avenue, Swanley, said: "We thought it was so special and uplifting that we included it on the service sheet at the thanksgiving service.

"It is touching so many lives."

TV researcher Lucy's family and friends have organised a fundraising event for charity the Pulmonary Hypertension Association, which supports victims of the disease.

More than 200 people will attend the event at The Woodlands in Hilda May Avenue, Swanley, on June 21.

A photographic tribute to Lucy will be on display and there will be live music and games.

Lucy's 27-year old brother John said: "We just want to make sure her death was not in vain and we can push awareness of the condition and the charity which supports the sufferers and their families."

An association spokesman said: "We are so grateful Lucy's friends and family are putting on this event at such a difficult time, to raise money for people with the condition."

More than 4,000 people in the UK have been diagnosed with the fatal condition.

It causes the blood pressure in the pulmonary artery to rise far above normal levels.

At the same time as the pressure rises, the walls of the blood vessels become thicker. This puts intense strain on the heart.

Pulmonary hypertension can occur with or without an identifiable or known cause.

Great article, I was a friend of Lucy's and will be attending the concert with many of lucy's old friends, we were all bought back together after years of not seeing one another when we attended Lucy's service. I'm sure she would love all this attention.

I hope Lucy's Family and Friends can take some comfort in that Jesus was there to meet her.
Her text is AMAZING and shows that she was not alone, I know Jesus was with her every step of the way.

Thank you so much for reporting Lucy's story in such a sensitive way, and for not holding back on what she believed as a Christian. So often beliefs like this are stifled in the press when in fact they are a lifestyle for many. I pray that your article will give others hope in Lucy's God. Thank you and well done.

I wasn't one of Lucy's friends but, I have a 26 year old *very beautiful* daughter of my very own who has been dx with Primary pulmonary hypertension at the very end of the year of 2005. I know for a fact that for the patients & their family that this disease is a journey. My daughter is entering into the third year of the lung disease. I pray she has 15 more years of life to live or perhaps, they will may a cure for PH! She's a single Mother with 2 children of her very own a son of age 2 and a daughter of age 9. Having the concert for Lucy is an *amazing thing* I wish I could be there as well! I dread the day that I should actually have to live to go on & live through losing my 26 yr old daughter from this terrible disease. But, WE are Christians & it would be every consolation in the world to me to KNOW that JESUS CHRIST the Father Himself was there to meet her & to KNOW that she was standing right there by His side! Continue in raising PH Awareness for Lucy & other young women like my daughter out here who are still living with this disease & have to live on. With heartfelt sympathy & my deepest condolences.~

I was NOT one of Lucy's friends but, I myself have a 26 year old very beautiful daughter of my very own who has been diagnosed with having Primary pulmonary hypertension at the very end of the year of 2005. So, I do know firsthand that for the patients & the families that this disease is a journey. My daughter is entering into her third year of her lung disease right now. And, I can only pray that she does have at least 15 more years of her life to live here! Who knows, perhaps they will find a cure for PH! She (herself) is a single mother of 2 small children. A son, at age 2 and a little girl at age 9 this year. Having the concert for Lucy is an amazing idea! I wish I could be there as well! I do so dread the day that I should actually have to live on losing my very own daughter from this ugly disease. WE too are Christians & it would be every single consolation in the world 2 me to KNOW that JESUS CHRIST Himself was right there to meet her & to KNOW that she was standing right there by His side! Continue on throughout your own lifetime raising PH Awareness for Lucy & others. May God bless you. My deepest condolences. Sent with heartfelt sympathy to YOU & yours.

I did not know Lucy, but it was a great feeling to know that she died knowing Jesus as her personal Savior. I,too, have PH and know she suffered greatly. Your family and friends are very important as we go through this traumatic disease. God bless her family.
