A BAN on drinking alcohol on London's public transport system has begun today (June 1).
It follows an evening of drunken partying on the Tube network last night with police saying 17 people were arrested and six stations had to be closed.
The Last Round on the Underground event had been widely publicised on internet sites such as Facebook.
Drinking from and carrying open containers of alcohol is now banned on the Tube, London buses, the DLR and tram services and stations.
The ban was one of the first policies to be implemented by Mayor of London Boris Johnson following his election last month.
Chief Executive of Alcohol Concern Don Shenker said: "Taking a firm approach to public drinking in this way sends a strong message that public drunkenness is socially unacceptable and will support both the public and transport staff. "

The people who where at that so called party last night should be ashamed of themselfs, what a bunch of no good slobs. I hope they had the cameras going and if they did they can get all there photos and nick the lot of them. I am not a Boris fan but he has got it right about the banning of alcohol on London's public transport system.
