A RESIDENT was rescued by firefighters from a blaze in a flat in West Wickham yesterday.
Four fire engines and 20 firefighters were called to a fire in Deer Park Way at 4pm on Wednesday.
A man had to be led to safety via an internal staircase by fire crews wearing breathing apparatus, after he became trapped by the fire and heavy smoke.
He was suffering from smoke inhalation and was treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service crews.
Firefighters from Bromley, Beckenham and Addington fire stations had the fire under control within an hour of arriving at the scene.
But the second floor flat was partly damaged by the fire and there was smoke damage throughout the building.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
