ALL of the post offices shortlisted for closure in the News Shopper area are to be axed, it has been announced.

The news comes after a six-week public consultation into the potential closure of 169 London branches.

There are 15 branches due to close across Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich and Lewisham, with the capital's first closures due to begin in June.

Bexley will see branches at Brampton Road, Bexleyheath, and Hollytree Parade, Foots Cray.

The five post offices closing in Bromley include Albemarle Road, Beckenham, and Walden Road, Chislehurst.

Branches at Carlton Parade and Crofton Lane in Orpington and Pratts Bottom in Rushmore Hill would also close.

In Greenwich, post offices at Blackheath Hill, Bostal Hill, Eltham High Street, Plumstead Common Road and Woolwich Road will close.

A further three Lewisham branches at Hither Green Lane, Burnt Ash Hill, Lee, and New Cross Road will also be axed.

Post Office Ltd says it received around 27,600 responses to the consultation, which ended on April 2.

The company's network development manager for London Anita Turner said: "These are difficult decisions which have not been taken lightly.

"We have considered very carefully all the comments made during the public consultation.

"We believe that the amended plan announced today offers our customers in London the best prospect for a sustainable network in the future, bearing in mind the Government's minimum access criteria and the other factors the Government has asked us to consider."

There is simply no need for post offices these days.

Stamps are available everywhere as are greetings cards, newspapers and stationery.

Pensioners should have bank accounts by now and let's be honest, the main reason they like to queue in the post offices is so that they can have a good old gossip about their neighbours and so-called 'friends'.

Is about time they LEAVE OUR post offices alone!! The adverts are all over the telly "use ur post office for this, or we can do that" but to find one in a suitable travelling distance or to find one STILL OPEN is a miracle, they do not advertise that-- DO YOU!!!!

Post Office/Royal Mail doesn't know the meaning of "Consultation". Just ask anybody in their pension scheme.

Where is the post office in Albemarle Rd - do they mean the main one on the roundabout in Beckenham?

I often send letters/packages to one of my sisters overseas and the post office is where I go for this service. Where would you go for letters to be weighed and costed when the post office has gone??

I spent over an hour in the post office on rushey green catford this morning. The place was full of drunks and idiots who were behaving in a dreadful manner. The office is also very dirty and no air conditoning. This post office should have been closed down a long time ago.

DM seriously what kind of people do you think would be in the post office in Catford?

I regularly need to send stuff abroad. It is necessary to go to the Post Office to get it weighed, etc. I can't agree with comments made earlier about there being no need for these smaller Post Offices any more.

why have this sham consultation, why waste peoples precious time thinking they might be listened to, PO Ltd and Postwatch are deaf and blind, stop this insincere phoney process now, admit there is little that will change your minds, all the following are ignored, proving how innacurate your Branch Access Reports are, the unfair uneven spread of closures, the lack of consultation with alternative offices forced to take on the extra business, perhaps Post Office Ltd and Postwatch should look up the english meaning of consultation "seek information or advice" neither are of interest to them,
despite all the errors, understatements, overstatements
clustering of closures, Petitions, local campaigns, and letters. This is not a consultation,
this really is a sham
endoresed and supported by the Labour Government, I hope they can all sleep well in their beds knowing the extra problems they have caused the poor, disabled, infirm and elderly having to travel greater distances to post offices that often will be difficult to get to, crowded and forced to wait in longer queues, shame on all of you.
