POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a gang-related fight.

Officers were alerted to an incident involving a number of youths outside Kams convenience store in Charlton Road, Charlton, at 4pm on Wednesday.

34 officers arrived while the fight, believed to be between the Woolwich Boys and Charlton's Cherry Boys gangs, was in progress.

Numerous weapons including cricket bats, golf clubs and knives, were recovered by police from the scene.

There were 21 men, aged between 15 and 20, arrested.

Two were charged with attempted murder, fifteen were charged with violent disorder and all 17 were remanded in custody to appear at Woolwich Magistrates' Court today.

Four other youths were bailed pending further inquiries.

Three males were taken to hospital suffering from head injuries and stab wounds.

One of the men was attacked by at least four youths inside the shop.

He suffered 14 stab wounds and required around 70 staples in his head in hospital after being repeatedly hit over the head with a hammer.

His condition is described as stable.

Two other men were taken to hospital with stab wounds, one of whom discharged himself.
