POLICE have named a man stabbed to death in Woolwich.

The father-of-one has been named as Barry Hammond, 27, of Walmer Terrace, Plumstead.

At approximately 4am on April 28 police were called to a disturbance in Woolwich New Road.

They believe a fight had broken out among a group, which resulted in Mr Hammond being stabbed.

He was pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth Hospital at 5.20am.

A post mortem gave cause of death as stab wound to the neck.

Police believe that the original disturbance, in which the man was stabbed then spilled over into Plumstead Road.

Two men in their 20s received injuries near to the junction with Burrage Road.

One man received a wound to the hand, believed from a bottle, and the other man received minor injuries.

Police are still appealing for witnesses and an incident room has opened at Lewisham under Detective Chief Inspector Will O'Reilly.

He said: "Anyone who was in this area in the early hours of that morning, and who may have seen or heard anything of the murder or the two assaults, should come forward."

Anyone who can assist should call the incident room on 020 8721 4905 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Four men have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Three have been bailed to return to a south London police station pending further enquiries, and a 20-year-old man is in custody.
