A 20-YEAR-OLD man who beat and kicked his father's dog has been given a suspended prison sentence.

Shenol Hussein, of Cotton Hill, Bromley, was sentenced at Greenwich Magistrates' Court after being found guilty of two counts of animal cruelty at a hearing in November.

The court heard Hussein was seen attacking his father's pit bull terrier Bailey as he walked along Blacklands Road, Catford, on June 3 last year.

Several witnesses saw Hussein kick the dog repeatedly and drag it along the pavement by its lead.

Hussein was arrested and was later sentenced to one month in prison, suspended for six months, and was ordered to carry out 36 hours of community service and pay £500 costs.

Bailey was taken to the vet by the RSPCA and given treatment. He has since been returned to his owner.

RSPCA Inspector Ben Strangwood, who dealt with the case, said: "This was a particularly vicious attack on this poor dog. There was absolutely no excuse."
