THESE are the horrific injuries suffered by 85-year-old grandmother Miriam Frampton, who was attacked in her own home.

Mrs Frampton also suffered chest pains after two men burst into the house she shares with her husband Gordon, in Adams Road, Beckenham.

The couple had locked up for the day when the doorbell rang.

Mr Frampton had been on his way upstairs when his wife answered the door, thinking it was her daughter and grandson coming to visit.

Mr Frampton, 72, said: "They just rushed in. I never saw the one who attacked my wife.

"I was pinned to the stairs while the other got hold of Miriam. He grabbed her and dragged her into the living room.

"I couldn't move, I couldn't do anything to help her. It was devastating, the violence was absolutely horrendous for her."

Mrs Frampton, who has seven grandchildren, was punched repeatedly in the face by one of the men, who demanded to know where her money was.

The man eventually found her purse and her husband's wallet, which contained £120 the couple had been saving for Christmas presents.

Mr Frampton, a former plumbing and heating engineer, and his wife were both taken to the Princess Royal University Hospital, Farnborough.

Mrs Frampton was kept in overnight as staff treated her for her injuries and an angina attack while her husband was collected by relatives later that night.

While Mrs Frampton is still too upset to talk about the assault, her husband added: "We are just gathering ourselves together.

"Physically we are OK, but mentally we are not so good. What happened was traumatic, it was such a violent attack.

"We are so frightened now. My advice to anybody is not to open your door. If the bell goes when it's dark, you should just shout Who's there?' and ask them what they want.

"We've lived here for four years and it's been a very peaceful area, but now our family has to ring us before they come round otherwise we won't answer the door."

Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Barry Hill said: "This robbery was a particularly despicable act on two defenceless, elderly people which has left them severely traumatised.

"We are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything to call us so that we can catch these cowardly indviduals."

The first suspect is a dark-skinned man, aged around 20, who was wearing dark clothes and a black woolly hat. The second is a black man, also aged around 20, who was wearing similar clothing and a hat.
