THE MAYOR of Bexley hosted an evening of entertainment to officially launch his chosen charities of the year.
Councillor Alan Downing, who became Bexley’s 73rd Mayor on May 16, has chosen to support the Diabetics UK Bexley Support Group and Help for Heroes during his year in the job.
Following the launch at Danson Park’s Boathouse on Wednesday (July 25), Cllr Downing said: “As a diabetic myself I’d like to be able to help local people to accessa support network that can provide help, advice and guidance on our condition.
“Help for Heroes is a fantastic cause. Our armed forces show tremendous commitment and heroism and we owe a great deal to them - this is one small way of showing our great appreciation.”
Music was provided by Rat Pack tribute act Jack Valentine on the evening.
Throughout the year, the Mayor and his team will organise fundraising projects and events to raise funds for both charities.
