NEIGHBOURS have paid tribute to a 49-year-old man who died after being hit by a van while reportedly having an epileptic fit in Bromley.
Mark Sales was said to have been fitting in Warner Road and fell into the street when he was hit by the vehicle as it turned into the street, from London Road.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 7.30am last Wednesday (January 18) but could not save him.
His neighbours, the Chambers family, had been living next door to the 49-year-old and his family in Coniston Road since he was 13.
Hannah Chambers said: “Another neighbour told me and I was really shocked about it.
“We are still in shock over it because you do not expect somebody that age to die like that.”
The 70-year-old added: “I used to see him every morning and he was always polite to everybody and you just had to ask and he would help.
“It’s a tragic thing that has happened and we certainly miss him.”
She says he loved watching sport and was a Millwall supporter.
Her husband Hugh, 74, said: “He was always willing to help with anything you wanted because he was so kind.
“He was quite a laidback and lovely bloke.”
And their daughter Denise, 47, added: “He was a very outgoing sort of person and enthusiastic and he was very much into his work.
“It should not have happened.”
An inquest into his death has been opened and adjourned.
A 59-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.
He has been bailed to return to a south London police station in late March, pending further enquiries.
