A LITHUANIAN man has been jailed for 22 weeks for stealing from charity containers.

Marius Narmontas, from Newham, claimed he worked for a charity collecting clothes when police caught him at the entrance of Crystal Palace Park with a van crammed full of clothes.

Although he could not remember the name of the charity he worked for.

Checks revealed his van had been seen the previous night in Carlton Parade, Orpington, where clothing had been stolen from a Scope charity collection container.

Narmontas, 25, was sentenced at Bromley Magistrates' Court on January 19 after pleading guilty to theft.
