A MINUTE of clapping took place to celebrate murdered teenager Rob Knox's life before footballers played a match in his memory.

The RK team managed to hold off Greenwich Borough Football Club (GBFC) for most of the game last Sunday (July 20).

But eventually the Kent League Premier team struck a late equaliser at GBFC's ground in Eltham Green Road, Eltham, to make it 2-2.

Rob's friends all wore light blue t-shirts featuring the slogan: "RK: What have you done today . . . to make you feel proud?"

Proceeds from the sale of these t-shirts and the entry fee for spectators will go towards creating facilities for youngsters.

Speaking at the event, his mother Sally said: "Robert's memorial fund is all about us putting money towards something for the young people of this area to do because there isn't anywhere for the children to go.

"His brother and friends just wanted to do something and all they want to do is spend their time trying to do things for Robert.

"I think for the young people that were his friends, it's something for them to do that they can keep working towards and making them feel better about what happened to him."

Actor Rob was stabbed in an incident outside the Metro Bar, Station Road, Sidcup, on May 23.

Rob, who had been acting since the age of 11, had just finished filming a role in the latest Harry Potter movie - Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince - in which he plays the character Marcus Belby.

  • Karl Bishop, aged 21, of Beaver Lodge, Carlton Road, Sidcup, will appear at the Old Bailey in September charged with murder and wounding five other people with intent.

Hope this all works out and the young people can get their chance to enjoy playing a safe game rather than walking the streets in danger.

Maybe if these boys had not been in a fight or bar underaged none of this would be needed...

Have the people invovled every said there wasn't?

To be honest tha has nothing to go with this very kind story of fundraising for a good cause.

Very insulting to those who set this match up...the vast majority weren't even at the pub and just wanted to so something in Rob's name.
