A CEREMONY has marked the beginning of building work to a new leisure centre in Forest Hill.
Mayor of Lewisham Sir Steve Bullock and cabinet member for community services Chris Best attended the event in Dartmouth Road, which was hosted by managing director of Willmott Dixon, Mark Tant.
Facilities in the new Forest Hill leisure centre will include a 25m swimming pool, a 16.7m learner pool, gym, two studios, community room and a cafe.
The construction contract for the complex was awarded to Willmott Dixon in November last year and the build is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
Sir Steve said: “A lot people have devoted much time and energy on this project and I’m very excited building work is now about to begin.”
