CARS were swept away as floods turned a residential street into a river.

Terrified residents feared a repeat of the Boscastle disaster as flash floods hit the area.

Families woke to find their street submerged under more than a foot of water.

The scene, in Milton Street, Swanscombe, turned to chaos as buses and cars drove through the water, sending waves sweeping against surrounding houses.

Firefighters were called as vehicles became stranded and police closed the street.
