Sun-kissed event has the X Factor
IT WAS 10 hours of sunshine, fun and entertainment as Trust Thamesmead brought top-line entertainment, and even the seaside, to town.
News Shopper was a media sponsor of the Thamesmead Festival held in Birchmere Park last Saturday, which attracted about 20,000 people.
Highlights of the free event included a parade by 400 schoolchildren who have been working with environmental group Taru Brazil to create fancy dress costumes made from household rubbish.
Stars of the festival were X Factor contestants Brenda and Chico, who together with former boy band Blue member Simon Webbe wowed the crowds with their performances.
There was much support too for the other two music stages where local talent and a gentler acoustic style of music were on offer.
As well as music, there was a funfair, arts and crafts, a community zone and healthy living zone.
And there was a beach, organised by Gallions Housing Association, with sand, paddling pools, donkey rides, inflatables, Punch and Judy and even a mermaid.
