THERE was a buzz of excitement in Sidcup as the whole town centre was transformed into one big carnival.
Young and old flocked into the town for the Sidcup Festival to enjoy the sunshine, live music, stalls, competitions and free gifts.
The event, organised by the town's traders, in partnership with Lark in the Park, was a 12-hour advert for the town, designed to bring people into Sidcup and show them a good time.
A carnival parade, featuring festival queen Rachel Thomas and her princesses Sacha Rae and Francesca Steggall, Bexley's deputy mayor Councilolr Ron Brown and a host of town organisations, made its colourful way through the town centre and into Sidcup Place.
Later in the day, the focus moved to Sidcup Place where there were refreshments, a host of live entertainment, which had the crowds dancing, and a fireworks display.
Organiser Nitin Dabhade said the whole event had been fantastic.
"The entertainment was brilliant, the young people behaved really well and lots of money was raised for charity," he said.
"We wanted to create a buzz in the town, and I think we succeeded. Everyone worked very hard and there are lots of thank-yous to be given."
