September 2005

THOUSANDS of spectators enjoyed two fun-packed days of air displays at the News Shopper-sponsored Biggin Hill International Air Fair.

Sixty-five thousand people attended the event in glorious sunshine.

The crowds were entertained by flypasts from a range of aircraft including a Spitfire, a Harrier GR7, a Jaguar GR3 and a Chinook helicopter.

Show organiser Colin Hitchins, of Air Displays International, said: “The highlight was the number of smiling faces which resulted from the quality of the flying displays.”

As well as the aerial activities, there was also a display of historic cars from the 20th Century.

The organisers hope to make next year’s fair even better.

Mr Hitchins said: “We always have a reputation to get something new and we will sit down on Wednesday to start planning next year’s show.”

News Shopper Publisher Dot Pressley said: “The 2005 Biggin Hill Air Fair proved to be a great success.

“The good weather played a significant part in drawing bumper crowds and the flying displays were magnificent.

“News Shopper was delighted to be celebrating its 40th birthday at such a prestigious event.”
