I have received a delightful letter from Kathleen Eames, of Roseberry Gardens, Orpington, who remembers watching the funeral cortege of Gipsy Lee pass by her Farnborough home in 1933.
Mrs Eames writes: “Gipsy Lee was the last Queen of the Kent Romanies and her tribe (many hundreds) came to say goodbye.
“If you drive to Farnborough village and go down Church Hill there is a small car park.
“Leave your car and after a short walk to the church you will see the headstone to Urania Boswell (Gipsy Lee).
“I was born in Farnborough a long time ago and still live in the parish. I have happy memories of the village I grew up in.”
