MAYOR of Gravesham Councillor Bill Lambert has launched a campaign to help raise vital funds for the victims of the Pakistan flood disaster.
Cllr Lambert and north Kent muslim groups started the appeal at the Civic Centre in Windmill Street, Gravesend, which aims to contribute to the £300m needed to aid Pakistan.
Efforts to help the 20m people affected by the floods have been slow as previous disasters in the region, such as the 2004 Asian Tsunami, have drained resources.
Cllr Lambert said: “The problems there are probably worse than initially thought, so myself and the muslim community have taken it upon ourselves to revitalise the campaign.”
Anyone wishing to donate can do so by calling the Disasters Emergency Committee Pakistan floods appeal hotline on 0370 6060900.
