GRAVESEND: Crucifixion re-enactment on Good Friday

ACTORS will re-enact the crucifixion of Christ in a town centre on Good Friday.

Churches across Gravesham are uniting for the eighth annual Good Friday Pageant, which sees members dress up in costume to perform the Bible scene of Roman soldiers leading Jesus to his death.

The performers, followed by church members, will leave St George’s Church in Church Street, Gravesend, at around 10.40am and proceed along New Road to outside NatWest bank in King Street, where the crucifixion will be staged.

After the event there will be a short service on Windmill Hill.

Martin Harris, who is the artistic director of the pageant, said: “Every year the crowd increases and last year nearly one thousand people humbly gathered around.

“People travel from all over Kent to see the pageant, and often say they are deeply moved by it.”
