GRAVESEND: New Salvation Army shop opens

2:05pm Monday 8th March 2010

By Michael Purton

TRUMPETS sounded in a town centre on Saturday to signal the official opening of a new Salvation Army shop.

Deputy Mayor of Gravesham Councillor William Lambert cut the ribbon at the new store in Queen Street, Gravesend, as the charity’s band played a number of tunes on the horns. Dozens of people visited the shop to look at the variety of goods on offer throughout the day, and all proceeds from sales will go towards the work the charity does across the UK.

Major Harry Stirling, the charity’s officer in charge of the shop, said: “It is excellent to open the new shop and we hope it will be as successful as the other branches across the country.”
