A BURGLAR who broke a man’s cheekbone and injured a mother and her five-year-old son has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Ricky Whiskin broke into the home of a 31-year-old woman in Priory Place, Dartford, threatening her with a 12-inch kitchen knife.

During a struggle the woman suffered minor injuries and her young son was knocked off the settee, leaving him with cuts and bruises.

Whiskin, aged 27, got away with £75 cash following the attack on September 11 last year.

Three days later he punched and kicked a 56-year-old man in the head before assaulting him further inside his home in St Edmunds Road, Dartford.

The victim suffered a broken cheekbone and bleeding on the brain, which put him in hospital for two weeks.

Nothing was stolen and no cash was taken.

Whiskin, of St Vincent’s Avenue, Dartford, pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court to aggravated burglary and GBH with intent.

Speaking after sentencing, Detective Constable Jan Metherell, from Kent police, said: “We are pleased that the sentence passed reflects the gravity of the offence.

“Following our investigation which was bravely supported by the victims a substantial sentence was given to this violent individual.

“He no longer poses the serious risk to the public while he was at liberty and will be in prison for a long time.”
