SWANLEY: Heavy rain causes flooding

GARDENS were flooded and roads resembled swimming pools in Swanley last night.

Firefighters were called out to pump away the water caused by the heavy downpours over the last 24 hours.

The auditorium at Swanley Technology College in St Mary’s Road was filled with about five inches of water.

A spokeswoman for the college said: “It’s a low building on a low piece of ground.

“The windows are at car park level, and that’s where the water went through.

“It’s not too bad now, it probably won’t be used for a couple of days, but there’s no damage I’m aware of.”

Patricia Griggs, who lives in West Harold, says her road was like a swimming pool.

The grandmother-of-14 said: “You couldn’t get across the road, the water was above your ankles.

“People’s gardens were flooded too.”
