A RESTAURANT and gym are just two of the extras which will be included when 40 new care apartments are completed.

The apartments being built at Emily Court, in Barn End Road, Wilmington, will provide an alternative to residential care, giving tenants their own home in a communal scheme with 24 hour care and support services.

It is being developed by national provider of services for older people, Housing 21 and is in partnership with Kent County Council, Dartford Council and Sevenoaks District Council.

The apartments will include a communal residents' lounge, hairdressing salon, shop, internet cafe and landscaped gardens.

And it is made up of 26 one bedroom and 14 two bedroom apartments.

People aged over 55 years old with housing, health or social care needs will be eligible. Each apartment has been designed for wheelchair access with its own sitting room, kitchen, walk-in shower or bath.

There will also be a nine bedroom unit called Adam Court. This unit will provide supported homes for adults aged 16 years old and above who have learning disabilities.

The apartments are due to be completed in April next year and anyone interested must be on the housing register and either in the boroughs of Dartford or Sevenoaks.

For more information call your local housing department or care manager.

I suspect this huge development only got the green light as its being done by KCC. Any other developer proposing something of this size would have been laughed at.
