IRISH dancers have walked away with three trophies in an international competition.

Forty-two members of the Linda Fryday Academy competed in the Barcelona International Dance Awards from March 20 to March 23.

The dancers, aged six to 24, who meet at Hubert House, Mallard Close, Temple Hill, and Freemantle Hall in Bexley High Street, won the categories for best folk dance, best costume and best overall dance.

Academy principal Linda Fryday said: "There's been a lot of hard work put in by all the dancers.

"It's all about them. They surpassed our expectations and the global recognition which they have received has really delighted us.

"They performed on a world stage and won. We are so proud of them all."

I have to comment on the photo put in about the Linda Fryday dancers. These girls and boys done really well beating over sixty countries to win the overall Barcelona championship. I think the least your photographer could have done was get a better picture in the paper than the one shown.I know he took better ones as i was watching the photo shoot. A lot of these dancers travelled a long way for these pictures and the least he could have done was use one of the pictures with them all in.

This is a fantastic story, I am delighted to hear local young people being given this unique opportunity to travel across Europe to perform. What a great experience and to receive an award for their efforts really is something to be proud of - Well done to our Young Irish Dancers, I hope there is more to follow!
