WOMEN from north Kent's Asian community have come together to discuss issues such as domestic violence and forced marriages.

More than 450 women and girls over the age of 14 attended the Sadi Awaaz Suno, which translates as Listen To Our Voices, event held at Woodville Halls, Windmill Street, Gravesend.

The event was set up to talk about issues such as domestic violence, forced marriages, women's health issues and the different support services available to women in Gravesham.

There were also performances by the Four by Four Bhangra Youth Club, the Saheli Dancers, the Asian Women's Group and the Lethal Soundz Roadshow.

The event was organised by mental health charity Rethink Sahayak and the North West Kent Racial Equality Council.

Gurvinder Sandher, racial equality council assistant director, said: "The issues discussed today were very hard-hitting and it was very positive to see so many people in attendance."
