AN ARTIST is having his work displayed on a first-class stamp to celebrate the music of The Beatles.
Dartford-born Sir Peter Blake designed the cover of The Beatles' Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album in the 1960s.
And yesterday, a first-class stamp featuring Sir Peter's colourful creation was launched.
Sir Peter studied at Gravesend School of Art, before being accepted into the Royal Academy of Art in London in 1953.
He produced The Beatles' album sleeve in 1967, which features 88 famous figures including Marilyn Monroe, Lewis Carrol and Shirley Temple.
Royal Mail's new set of six self-adhesive stamps includes five other album covers - Revolver, Abbey Road, Help, Let It Be and With The Beatles.
A Royal Mail spokesman said: "We are very pleased to have this collection and it is a great tribute to a legendary group."
