Community cash to make a 'real difference'

10:29am Friday 5th September 2008

GOVERNMENT cash is set to flood into south-east London to help voluntary and community groups.

The money is part of the Grassroots Grants scheme which gives the chance for the capital's clubs, volunteers and community groups to apply for a share of £19.8million pounds.

Set up by the Community Development Foundation (CDF), the programme is offering grants between £250 and £5,000 to groups with annual incomes under £20,000.

A spokesman for the Cabinet Office said: "Whether it's helping local clubs get hold of new kit, coaching new volunteers or simply giving the village hall a fresh lick of paint, the grants aim to make a real and immediate difference to the work of London's small and local community groups."

CDF's chief executive Alison Seabrooke added: "It reaches out to groups that may have never even considered applying for grant funding before."

Groups in Bromley, Bexley, Lewisham and Greenwich can apply for grants through the Capital Community Foundation on 020 7582 5117.
