Project aiming to link borough’s groups

CHURCHES and community groups in Bexley have launched a new initiative aimed at linking groups and agencies across the borough.

Called Transform Bexley Borough, the project launched at Trinity Baptist Church in Bexleyheath Broadway is based on an already successful project in Newham.

The minister at the church, the Rev Martin Seymour, says the idea behind the project is to bring together organisations already working in the borough so they can become more effective by co-ordinating their efforts and activities.

He says they had been inspired by the project in Newham and added: "We have had such a good experience with the Street Pastors and other initiatives in Bexley involving church members."

The launch event featured a band, drama performances and a church choir.

Among those backing the idea and who spoke at the event were Bexley's borough commander, Chief Superintendent Tony Dawson, and representatives from the Bexley Council for Racial Equality and Bexley Multi-Faith group.

The project will have an organising body to pull groups and ideas together.
