AN OCTOGENARIAN has decided to retire because he says he is too old to work.
Neil Murphy, 84, was given a rousing send-off by his workmates at Sainsbury's in Crayford, where he has worked for the past 19 years.
Mr Murphy, of Gipsy Road, Welling, began working in the store in Stadium Way, after retiring from his job with British Telecom.
He had only been retired for a month when he
decided life at home was not for him.
Around Christmas in 1989, he started work as a "greeter" at the store and stayed on, becoming the supermarket's oldest employee.
Mr Murphy, whose wife died two years ago, has two surviving children and a grandson.

He is now off on the holiday of a lifetime to Alaska with his niece and will then devote his spare time to his garden and completing a doll's house for a friend.
