A THIRTY-FIVE-YEAR-OLD man who robbed and raped a prostitute after threatening her with a screwdriver has been jailed.

Astrit Rama, from Enfield, drove the woman to William Foster Lane, Welling, after offering her a lift, then robbed and attacked her.

Rama, was found guilty at Woolwich Crown Court in September and last week was ordered by a judge to serve at least seven years in jail before being considered for parole.

The court heard how the 40-year-old victim was walking along Plumstead High Street at 3.15am on April 18, when Rama's car slowed down and he shouted to her.

Not understanding what he was saying, the woman carried on walking.

Ten minutes later, he pulled alongside her and Rama persuaded the woman to get in the car.

He then drove to Welling, where he parked and launched a vicious attack on his victim.

She eventually escaped through the car's broken door.

Police recovered the screwdriver, then traced Rama's car from CCTV footage.
