PRE-SCHOOL children in Thamesmead have been celebrating Black History Month by having fun with a theatre group.

The 65 children aged between two and five from Trust Thamesmead's Acorn and Arnott pre-schools were entertained by the Whipper Snappers, learning about different African countries through singing songs.

They also discovered what a typical Ghanaian village looks like, what fruit and vegetables grow there, and the animals and birds living in the rainforest.

There was a traditional African storytelling session and an African instrument workshop.

A trust spokesman said: "The children had a great time, dressing up and having their own parts to play in the shows."

Black History Month continues in the town with a photo-journalism exhibition celebrating the abolition of slavery.

It can be seen in the foyer of the trust's offices in Joyce Dawson Way between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday until October 31.
