PUPILS at a Bexley school face mass screening after a case of tuberculosis was confirmed.

One case has been confirmed by the Health Protection Agency at Townley Grammar School for Girls, Townley Road, Bexleyheath. The girl has been treated and is no longer infectious.

But News Shopper believes there may be a second case at St Mary and St Joseph's Catholic School, Chislehurst Road, Sidcup.

Letters have been sent to parents of Townley pupils telling them students will need to be tested, and if necessary vaccinated.

One angry father who contacted News Shopper says he had tried for 18 months to persuade the authorities to vaccinate his children on the NHS and eventually paid for them to be treated privately.

The testing and immunisation programme at the school will begin shortly after pupils return for the new term.
