Now you can park yourself for a cuppa

1:52pm Wednesday 3rd October 2001

People walking amid the picturesque surroundings of Shenley Park can now rest their weary feet and find refreshment at a newly-built pavilion.

The log cabin-style building, which contains a tea room, was opened at the park, off Radlett Lane, by the Mayor of Hertsmere on Wednesday last week.

New facilities provided at the pavilion include a meeting room, which can be used by local organisations, changing rooms for tennis players and toilets.

Shenley Park Trust received £290,000 from Hertsmere Borough Council to carry out the project, and other improvements to benefit the community.

Park director John Ely said: "We always hoped that we would be able to provide better facilities, and the council grant has enabled us to do that.

"Now there is somewhere for our visitors to go and have a cup of tea or a snack, and the pavilion will also act as a local information centre."

The tea room will be open seven days a week, from 11am until dusk, and the community room can be booked by groups for evening meetings.

Mr Ely said that, in total, the trust had spent £330,000 on building the pavilion, resurfacing three tennis courts and improving facilities at the Old Chapel Building community centre.

Shenley Park's annual Apple Day, which is an event featuring activities and competitions on an apple theme, will be held on Sunday, October 21.
