A driver who was towing a caravan which fell onto its side on the A1 east of Borehamwood on Thursday morning, is believed to have fled the scene.
The caravan, which was being towed by a blue Ford Sierra car, turned over near the South Mimms slip-road on the northbound carriageway at 10.39am.
All three lanes of the road had to be closed, from Stirling Corner, and the road was not re-opened until 12 noon.
A 32-year-old woman and two boys, aged six and four, were in the car, although police believe another person may have been driving at the time of the accident.
Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call PC David Bridgman or PC Jozef Czuba on 01462 425113.
