A FATHER-of-two died of pneumonia while on his way to the post office to collect child benefit for his 14-year-old twin son and daughter.

Kevin Armstrong, 47, of Avondale Drive, Hayes, was found collapsed in a playing field opposite Crown Shopping Parade at noon on Monday by passers-by walking their dog.

The area was immediately sealed off as police called in a crime photographer and homicide adviser, but after an emergency post mortem revealed the cause to be pneumonia, police were satisfied that there was nothing suspicious about the death.

Detective Inspector Morgan O'Grady, who was investigating the incident, said: "The man was overcome by weakness and cold, and his pneumonia got the better of him. He shouldn't have been out of bed."

His family are now making arrangements to have his body taken back to his home town of Bishop Auckland in the north east.
