NEW ILFORD manager Joe Simmonds fielded an experimental side but was largely pleased with the 1-0 deficit in a friendly against Leyton Pennant.
Most impressive of the debutants was former Spurs junior, Daniel Longland.
A host of goalmouth scrambles at the Pennant end could not cancle out the eigtheenth minute home strike.
Simmonds has recruited ex-Dagger Gary Seymour as his assistant, while Roy Drake has been enlisted as goalkeeping coach.
Ilford will be chasing automatic promotion from the Essex Senior League this season, as well as an FA Vase run to coincide with the opening of their £800,000 clubhouse complex.
