November 15, 2000 19:40: Mill Hill 10 Uxbridge 3

Herts/Middlesex Division One

Mill Hill gained their second league victory of the season, and there was more to celebrate as the men's lower sides both won and the ladies were also successful.

It was the second time this season that all the club's teams have won.

Playing with the wind at rain-lashed Page Street, the men contained Uxbridge, who had age and experience on their side.

Mill Hill's pack went close several times before No 8 Pat Smyth crashed through for a try.

In dreadful conditions, Mill Hill tried to open the game up but this often ended in disaster.

Turning round only 5-0 up, the home side sensed a difficult second period.

But good work by the backs saw Tim Green score in the corner from a chip and chase.

Uxbridge tried to apply pressure, but their only reward was a penalty.

On Sunday, Mill Hill's Ladies, newly promoted, opened their account with a fine 15-5 win over Ipswich.

With the visitors fielding a much bigger and stronger pack, it was only some excellent tackling that kept the home team in the game, before Elouise Bigland went over for a opening try.

Ipswich responded with a fierce charge that led to a try by their No 8.

Winger Libby Forster scored a brace of tries in the second half to guarantee two points for Mill Hill and an enjoyable weekend at Page Street.
