A man arrested on suspicion of murder in a rural village is being questioned by police.
The 34-year-old man from Coleford, Gloucestershire, was arrested after a man was fatally stabbed in the early hours of Friday morning.
The man, who has not been formally identified, has been named locally as 27-year-old Sean Hook.
Officers were called to a house in Woodgate Road in the Mile End area of the Forest of Dean town Coleford at 2.14am.
Paramedics treated the man but he died shortly before 3am.
A neighbour, who asked not to be named, told The Citizen: "I heard screams. It was a normal, quiet night and then boom. There was a big noise and shouting, it was very quick and short, but it was scary."
It is not believed either Mr Hook or the man arrested lived at the property.
A spokeswoman for Gloucestershire Police said: "The 34-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a man in the Forest of Dean yesterday remains in police custody.
"The post-mortem examination on the 27-year-old man who died following the incident in Mile End will be conducted later on today."
Mr Hook's next of kin and the coroner have been informed.
