Daniel Day-Lewis is expected to land a Bafta nomination later for his critically acclaimed performance as US president Abraham Lincoln.

Lincoln, a political biopic which focuses on the president's bid to emancipate the slaves as the American Civil War comes to an end, is directed by Steven Spielberg and is also tipped to dominate this year's Oscars.

Other films expected to feature in the nominations at Bafta's HQ in Piccadilly include Shadow Dancer, a thriller set in Northern Ireland during the Troubles, which is based on a novel by journalist Tom Bradby.

Andrea Riseborough, who plays an IRA member turned MI5 informer in the film, has already been recognised for her performance with a nod in the shortlist for the EE Bafta Rising Star Award 2013.

The latest 007 film, Skyfall, is also likely to feature heavily with director Sam Mendes and Bond baddie Javier Bardem expected to be recognised by Bafta with a possible nomination for Dame Judi Dench's portrayal of spymaster M.

Tom Hooper, the man behind the huge hit The King's Speech, is likely to see his latest film, a big screen adaptation of the musical Les Miserables, feature in the Bafta running.

Hooper, who learned his trade on TV shows including Byker Grove and EastEnders, could secure a nomination with the film's stars Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway.

Veteran duo Sir Anthony Hopkins and Dame Helen Mirren are likely to be recognised for their roles in Hitchcock.

Sir Anthony played the legendary film-maker, and Dame Helen took on the role of his wife, in the biopic.

The event, formally known as the EE British Academy Film Awards, will take place on Sunday February 10 at the Royal Opera House, in Covent Garden, with Stephen Fry hosting.
