TEN candidates will battle it out to be the Mayor of London at the election on May 1.

Each one had to get 330 signatures from people on the electoral register to support their nomination: 10 from each London borough and from the City of London.

They also had to pay a deposit of £10,000, which will be returned if they get more than five per cent of first choice votes in the election.

The candidates are (in alphabetical order):

  • Richard Barnbrook - British National Party
  • Gerard Batten - UK Independence Party
  • Sian Berry - Green Party
  • Alan Craig - Christian Peoples Alliance and Christian Party
  • Lindsey German - Left List
  • Boris Johnson - Conservative Party
  • Ken Livingstone - Labour Party
  • Winston McKenzie - Independent
  • Matt O'Connor - English Democrats
  • Brian Paddick - Liberal Democrats

The full list of candidates can also be found at London ElectsNominations for the Mayor and London Assembly elections can still be withdrawn by candidates or their parties before midday on Wednesday (April 2).

Vote Boris.
I have had enough of Londoners being forced to be role models for the rest of the world, Ken is using us for his own perverse motives. I love london please dont make me leave. Vote Boris

I voted for Ken for the last two mayoral elections. But it will be Boris Johnson for me at this election. Ken Livingstone only thinks of himself and is not for the person born and bred in the uk. Trips abroad on tax payers money and suspended staff on his Racial Equality Teams proves that time and time again. I do believe it is time for a change. The Mayoral position is for Greater London and Londoners not the world.

Can anyone tell me why Ken spent £100,000 on St.Patricks day celebrations, but nothing on St Davids,StAndrews,St Georges days?

Nothing on St George's Day? What makes you say that - Ken spent £115,000 on it last year and there's bound to be at least that this time round. Trafalgar Square celebration of English food, Cenotaph parade, Shakespeare's Globe festivities and the Covent Garden festival of St George. You should get down there!

I’m not really a Ken supporter, but he will almost certainly get in again.
Reason? London, and remember he’s the Mayor of London as a whole, not just Bromley, is one of the most culturally diverse cities in the world. Ken has put hundreds of thousands into courting the black/ethnic minority vote via various initiatives, and he’s been very successful in doing so. For that reason he’s a dead cert to get in again, as most of the Black/ethnic minority (Majority) of London won’t go near Boris with a barge pole, and Paddock is just a joke. He may have to take a bit of pain on the campaign trail, but it’s basically done and dusted for Ken.

I will be voting for Brian. He is young, sensible and good looking.

It's time we had a change.

I am surprised Darren Johnson is not running. Is there any role he does not want to fill?

Ken does spend money on St georges day but does not promote it in a hope that the turn out is poor and he can say i tiold you so no ones interested.

How can anyone even think of voting for Livingstone! I haven't met one person that voted for him last time around, everyone I ask didn't vote for him and I find that a little strange, dont you?

Gemma, Belvedere says...

I voted for Ken last time and will probably be voting for him again. Very disappointed in the lack of leaflets that have come through my door. The only one I have had was for the BNP who I would not vote for in a million years.

Livingstone must be stopped! He just wastes more and more of our money, pursuing his own personal and political, lefty crusades that have nothing to do with the real issues facing London or its inhabitants. Don't people remember what he did at the GLC and he clearly hasn't changed! If you vote for and elect Livinstone, prepare for a lot more of the same crazed thinking and I hope you get what you will truely deserve!

Hmmm, that explains why it's a lead item on the homepage of the mayoral website! He's trying to keep it a secret.

Newt-breeding illegal! That's a shock to my soft underbelly. Ken is to be congratulated for doing his bit to keep the waterways of the Metropolis well-stocked with rare amphibians. Can Boris claim the same skill with the net and bucket I wonder? I think not!

And...he drinks whisky all day. He's known to down it all through important meetings (when one would expect him to keep a clear head). He even had a glass of it in a lift at 10am one morning!

The worst part is the arrogant whatsit doesn't even try to hide it. Basically he doesn't care - which sums him up nicely.

Matt O’Connor! you must be joking, wasn’t he the one who left his Fathers 4 Justice Members high and dry, was left unaccountable for membership fee's and monies raised. Is a confessed alcoholic and living with a woman who whilst claiming to support fathers rights denies the father of her child to see it!! Trust O’Connor with the well being of London and as with F4J it too will suffer and fall.

Well Done Sir, Superb thought process going on there. As long as its not Boris???? TAKE SOME RESPONSIBILTY AND DO A LITTLE RESEARCH INTO IT, READ A BIT and make an informed choice that you think may benefit london, IF I ASKED YOU WHY NOT BORIS? I BET YOUR REASONS WOULD BE SCINTILLATING.
